Timber Frame Great Room |
We are North Carolina Timber Frame Home
Builders. The terms TIMBER
FRAME and POST and
BEAM are often used
interchangeably. Both have a skeleton frame
using wood post and beams
connected with joinery. Both provide
structural support for the building. Both
can be used with energy-efficient
structural insulated panels
(click to read about our Structural
Insulated Panel Homes) or conventional
framing. Both can also include “traditional”
joinery. Both allow exterior and interior
walls of your choice in materials, styles
and finishes, from rustic
to contemporary. There are
endless options for truss designs, wood
species, and finish options.
A Timber Frame Home uses
timbers that joined with Traditional Joinery
and are erected in pre assembled walls and
bents. A wall is parallel to the ridge of
the roof while a bent is perpendicular. The
tight fitting joinery using wooden pegs
creates a self supporting structure. This
style of building has a rich tradition going
back in history to early architecture. Click

we have completed as North Carolina Timber
Frame Builders.

Post and Beam construction uses
only vertical and horizontal pieces and is
completed with one piece erected at a time
using simple joinery. The Post and
Beam structure has upright posts
and the beams are connected to give
stability to the posts.
